Project Background
Understanding the challenge and our approach to building lasting peace
The Challenge
In recent years, Haiti has faced significant political, security, and socio-economic crises that have tested efforts to build sustainable peace in the country.
These crises particularly affect young people, who represent a significant portion of the Haitian population. The normalization of violence and emergence of new social behaviors among youth weakens social bonds and compromises peace and respect for human rights.
In such a context, where the potential of young people is not sufficiently utilized, violence becomes a means of expression and intermediation.
Our Response
The PBF Peace Infrastructure project addresses the weak involvement of young people by political and economic decision-makers in the process of stabilization and development of a sustainable peace culture in Haiti.
We aim to build a national peace architecture around young Haitian men and women, with the involvement of actors particularly from the cultural sphere and university laboratories.
Our goal: to stop the expansion of the narrative of violence in the public space.
Our Approach
Youth Empowerment
Placing young Haitians at the center of peace-building efforts, recognizing their potential as leaders and changemakers.
Cultural Integration
Using art, music, and cultural expression as powerful tools for dialogue, reconciliation, and social cohesion.
Sustainable Impact
Building local networks, training community leaders, and creating lasting structures for peace and civic engagement.
38 communes strengthened through youth forums, cultural programs, peace clubs, and local initiatives

Dive deep into the five pillars of Haiti's youth-led peace infrastructure

Voices for Peace
"When the youth speak, the nation listens."
Across communes from Jérémie to Cap-Haïtien, young Haitians gathered to speak, not of fear, but of possibility. The forums united farmers, students, and women leaders around ONE goal: to redefine their role in the nation's peace agenda. Together, they drafted a National Youth Roadmap aligned with UN Resolution 2250 and built local networks that continue to champion civic engagement.

Art for Peace
"Art became the new language of peace."
When words divide, art unites. Across Haiti's ten departments, artists and cultural organizations transformed creativity into a powerful instrument for peace. Through 37 artistic initiatives—from theatre and music to painting and dance—youth used expression to challenge violence and promote human rights. The movement culminated in national media campaigns that spread messages of unity and respect across the country.

Schools as Safe Havens
"Learning peace. Living peace."
In areas deeply affected by insecurity, schools became sanctuaries for dialogue and protection. Through the creation of peace and human rights clubs, students learned to resolve conflicts, promote inclusion, and become leaders of positive change. These clubs fostered empathy and civic responsibility, proving that education is the most powerful tool for peace.

Dialogue for Inclusion
"From advocacy to action."
Peace cannot thrive without inclusion. In three departments, young peace advocates met with political leaders and public officials to promote representation and rebuild trust. Through structured dialogues, 128 youth were trained in advocacy and negotiation, while 26 political parties participated in exchanges that culminated in a signed protocol for youth engagement—a first in Haiti's political landscape.

Support for Community Initiatives
"Peace grows from the ground up."
Across Haiti, communities transformed ideas into results. Youth led projects that tackled local challenges—from rebuilding police posts and cleaning schools to supporting small businesses and distributing livestock. Through 38 initiatives in 22 communes, young people became local peacebuilders. Simultaneously, structured dialogues between young peace architects and the Haitian National Police created new bridges of understanding, transforming perceptions and reinforcing mutual respect in communities once marked by tension.
